Our quarterly Club Family Dinner Social was a huge success. Twenty-Two members and spouses were in attendance. The dinner was delicious with lamb chops and smothered chicken breasts, vegetables and rice. This was topped off with apple struddle and ice cream. Wine,coffee,and tea, who could want for more? It Was Too Hot To Boogaloo! -

This picture was taken last Sunday, June 27,2010 at Towne Point Park in downtown Norfolk. It was the last day of the Bayou Boogaloo and as a fund raiser we worked a concession stand named "The Lazy Lizard Lounge" for FestEvents. Please notice the lack of customers.

Wester Branch High School Key Club serves at Elizabeth River Run -

This was the 31st Elizabeth River Run, a Tidewater Strider Grand Prix Event. It was held in downtown Portsmouth and started and ended at the Ntelos Pavilion at Harbor Center. Things started early, the Crawford Street Mile went off at 7:45 AM and the ERR 10K Run & Walk Division started at 8:00 AM. By 10:00 AM it was all over. At our Hampton Roads Mid-Winter Kiwanis Family Reunion held on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the Phoebus High School in Hampton, Virginia our Kiwanis Club of Churchland received a Honor Club Banner presented by the Kiwanis International Foundation. Each year during the winter the Church of St Therese provides a week of shelter for the homeless living in the Western Branch of Chesapeake and the City of Portsmouth. As one of our community service projects we provide and serve them a hot breakfast on Thursday morning. Community Service Painting Project Covered by the Faithful Five +1 -

Each year our club provides a service project to The Church of St Therese. These projects are different each year and are planned to serve the needs of the church. It is an effort to show our gratitude to St Therese for their generosity in providing us with such a wonderful meeting hall.
Our service project this year was to paint the halls leading to the church administrative office. Our task started at 9:00 AM and was completed by 12:00 PM. Not bad at all. At times(more)

We could not have asked for a better day. Even though the temperature reached the upper 80's a cool northwest breeze kept us comfortable. The first volunteers arrived at 6:30 AM and started unloading the trailer and trucks. There were tents and tables to be set up both on shore and on the pier. It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon when the Division 21 faithful volunteers arrived at the home of Wes and Darlene Brown located on Magruder Road in Smithfield. Most of us did not go to our homes after our church services but went straight to Smithfield. There was a lot to do in preparation for next Tuesday's Annual Division 21 Kid's Fishing Day. This event was the 35th Kiwanis award to the City of Portsmouth Employee of the Year. It took place at our regular club meeting held on April 16, 2009. A Kiwanis committee selects the recipient from the nominees presented by the City Departments. The revolving departmental plaque contains the names of the thirty five winners and will be in the possession of the winning department until the next annual award. KiwanisOne Day is observed each year by the Kiwanis International Family. It is a day that the Kiwanis Clubs members bond together with their sponsored Key Clubs to perform a community service. This year we worked with Stonebridge and Western Branch High Schools Key Clubbers at the Oasis Social Ministry, 1020 High St. Portsmouth, VA. Our task was to paint the floor in the Thrift Shop.
